A special all-ages Sunday afternoon charity fundraiser!

New York Brass Band’s chosen charity is Favela Brass, a music school based in Rio de Janeiro which aims to give the youngsters in the Favelas the opportunity to learn a musical instrument.

The project was established by Doncaster born Tom Ashe who went over to Rio for Carnival and never came back. He has now established a music school in the heart of a Favela and he provides free instruments and free lessons for youngsters who want to do something positive in an impoverished community.

At the end of February, 8 members of NYBB will fly out to Rio to spend 10 days working with Tom and his youngsters. (We all pay our own air fare and accommodation so all the money we raise goes to Favela Brass). We will take with us a stock of new instruments and Stu our sax player take his repair kit from his workshop.

The Sunday afternoon family gig at The Crescent on 9th February is a fundraiser for Favela Brass. All the money we raise will go to the charity to support the work of Tom and his team.
