The Howl & The Hum

From different corners of the UK but born from the York music scene The Howl & The Hum was first inspired by Alan Ginsberg’s poem ‘Howl’, which is the call, with ‘The Hum’ appearing to be a more modern response.

The Howl & The Hum draw on sounds which feel simultaneously epic and intimate, uplifting yet melancholic. From the experimental, electronic textures of The Cure or Massive Attack to the atmospheric, transatlantic rock of The National, via a love of classic songwriters like Townes Van Zandt.

The release of their debut tracks forms an impressive introduction to a group who appear intent on doing things unexpected of new bands. The results already suggest that The Howl & The Hum are a call to pay attention to in 2017.

Bull

“York’s Bull is the perfect meeting point of early-1990’s American slacker rock and classic British song-writing.”
Louder Than War

“Their 90s tinged alternative rock music recalls all the best, and most emotive, skyscraping riffs sounds coming from the likes of Pavement, Dinosaur Jr. and The Pixies, as well as the likes of Smashing Pumpkins and Wolf Alice”
Soundsphere Magazine

The Blueprints

The Blueprints continue to evolve as great song-writers and masters of thrilling shows. Eschewing the grim careerist posturing of many of today’s bands, they exude joy and humour, an experience that translates easily to audiences who become happy participants in the live arena.

Crisp melodies weave amongst spacious, percussive guitar textures, drums flail and spin, and pianos punch the tunes home with hook-laden basslines. They set the pace and only let up for singer Stu’s charmingly wayward banter between songs. Melody, harmony, rhythm and big tunes are all things you’ll find at a typical ‘Prints show…which are rarely typical…
