The t-shirt with the dance floor is a straight up collage of recognisable elements, photographed shortly in to the lockdown. Regulars will recognise the header as the noticeboard at the bar, the empty main room with it’s disco ball, maybe even the reel to reel tape machine and phone at the bar. The words give a context, about what the venue is and what it is currently experiencing, so acts as a form of social document which captures the zeitgeist. While the venue exists, the text about a social dynamic remains relevant.
Use of the text also serves as blocks to break up the image from simply being photo’s pasted together. Again, the horizontal halftones break things up, taking it away from being a basic photo, to something a bit fuzzier, while tying the different elements together with a unifying feature. In both cases, the colour blue was matched from a photograph of the sign over the entrance to The Crescent.
