We're resuming our Twitch streams ft our Front Bar DJ residents this Saturday! This week we have Just Jess from Mashed/Personal Space Invaders, who's gunna lead a workout of his most banging mashups, remixes and edits! Tune in this Saturday at 7pm at twitch.tv/thecrescentyork!

To support our industry during this crisis the Gov

To support our industry during this crisis the Government reduced the rate of VAT on ticket sales to 5% but now want to increase this back to 20%.
This increase in VAT will impact the entire ecosystem – the crews, the artists, venues and all employees - just when we need help to survive and recover the most.
Increasing VAT by 400% at a time when the live music industry needs crucial support would be catastrophic for our recovery.

GOOD NEWS! THE SHOW MUST GO ON! During lockdown,

GOOD NEWS! THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

During lockdown, we announced ‘A Christmas Wish’: a series of distanced Christmas shows! York getting thrust into Tier 2 did threaten this. Selling alcohol, whilst not our primary reason for getting into this business, is essential to the model of the live music industry, and quite simply the shows would not have been feasible without it.

We’re therefore very happy that the Government has listened to the advice of the Music Venue Trust and created an exemption for the sale of alcohol at cultural events, which will enable us to continue!

However, we want to send love and solidarity to the rest of York's hospitality industry who will likely be hit very hard by these rules at a time of year where they are normally reliant on decent trade. The rules are nonsensical and damaging against an already battered industry. We once again encourage the Government to work WITH hospitality, rather than against it.

But in the meantime, for the sake of the bands, freelancers, and culture in york, we’re delighted to carry on with our Christmas shows. These shows will still follow our previous distancing guidelines. You can find these here: http://thecrescentyork.com/venue-info-socially-distanced-live-concerts/

A CHRISTMAS WISH FROM THE CRESCENT: FOR GIGS TO RETURN!

We're delighted to announce a season of socially distanced shows here at The Crescent around the Christmas period. We were working hard to get this together for November, but our reopening plans were once again scuppered due to the second Lockdown. So we are praying for restrictions to lift once again so we can get back to putting on music... being able to put on gigs again would be nothing short of a Christmas Miracle!

These shows are planned according to Tier 2 regulations (seated shows, groups from same households). If the lockdown extends, or York ends up in Tier 3, we will revisit these plans.
