Hellbound Glory

‘Virgil has always come back to the Hellbound Glory name, which despite its continued underground status, is nothing less than legendary in certain circles.’
Saving Country Music

Bouncing between his hometown of Aberdeen, WA and Reno, NV, Hellbound Glory is the American singer-songwriter Leroy Virgil.

Hellbound Glory presents his seventh full length album The Immortal Hellbound Glory: Nobody Knows You. The album sees Hellbound Glory bending back into classic “Leroy Virgil country” – while dabbling in blues and folk. Virgil includes traditional standards, and also new songs he’s written since the release of 2020’s Pure Scum. Along with the album, Hellbound Glory released singles “Can’t Wait To Never See You Again”, “13 Corners” with a lyric video to accompany it, as well as his take on Dan Hicks’ “Reeling Down” ahead of the album’s release.

“It’s been a rough couple years for ole Leroy. The last album (Pure Scum) dropped Friday the 13th of March 2020 and we had to cancel the remainder of the big Shooter Jennings tour we had booked to promote it. Then I lost my mansion in Reno, broke my leg, wrote a bunch of songs. Then I went through a break up, and recorded Nobody Knows You a week later. If you listen carefully you’ll hear that this album picks up where Pure Scum left off. Driving late at night on some mountain highways between Reno, NV and Gold Country, CA. Along the way, I picked up some friends like Dan Hicks who wrote “Reeling Down” who died a few years back. Then there’s Jimmy Cox who wrote “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out” back in the roaring 20’s and then died shortly after. I guess I’m lucky to be alive. Y’all know where to find me. No pictures. Hellbound forever.” – Leroy Virgil (Hellbound Glory)

Bio:

Hellbound Glory was formed in 2008 in Reno, NV by Virgil after moving from Aberdeen, WA. The inspiration for Hellbound Glory’s music has been described by Virgil as “the Reno nightlife, experiences I’ve had, and women I’ve met.” LA Weekly has described Hellbound Glory’s music as “evoking the energy of the wildest party Waylon, Willie and Bocephus ever had.” and Saving Country Music recently mentioned that “despite its continued underground status, (Hellbound Glory) is nothing less than legendary.”

Virgil himself credits his influences as “Hank Williams, Nirvana, and Hank Williams Jr,” and he’s toured eclectically alongside legendary southern rock band ZZ Top, the Master of Space & Time Leon Russell, and even the active rock band 10 Years for their acoustic tour.

After a 6 year hiatus, Hellbound Glory recorded Pinball in 2017 with friend, producer and Black Country Rock label president Shooter Jennings. Since its release it has reeled in over 10 million all-time streams, and was re-released for Record Store Day which included a duet with Tanya Tucker on one of Hellbound Glory’s classic tunes “You Better Hope You Die Young.” The album’s lead track “‘Merica (The Good Ole U.S.A)” was featured on Netflix’s film ‘Father of the Year’.

The follow up to 2017’s Pinball was found in 2020 with Pure Scum, also produced by Shooter Jennings. The album was recorded in just two days in Los Angeles, CA, and was dubbed by Virgil as “the most classic country album Hellbound Glory has ever released”

After Pure Scum, Virgil went through losing his mansion in Reno and breaking his leg, but took to writing the songs for Nobody Knows You. Then he went through a break up and recorded The Immortal Hellbound Glory: Nobody Knows You a week later. Once again with producer Shooter Jennings and his myriad of musicians – Jamie Douglass on drums, Ted Russell Kamp on bass, John Schreffler on pedal steel and guitar, Aubrey Richmond on fiddle and background vocals – Virgil also enlisted long time friend and roadmate Chuck Bradley to play on the record as well.
