DEEKLINE

Deekline is a rare figure in dance music, the seminal producer who balances the cutting edge and the mainstream with ease. Boss man of the Hot Cakes/Jungle Cakes collective of producers, promoters and DJs, this bonafide bass music icon is currently experiencing a new lease of life as a legendary figure to a new generation of jungle, bass and garage artists.
Tunes you might recognise are: ‘I Don’t Smoke’, a breakbeat inspired 2-step tune with the classic sample ‘I don’t smoke the reefer!’, which got into the UK singles top 20 in 1999. Also, ‘Got to Believe’, ‘Deepa’, and jungle anthem ‘Good to Have the Feelin’, with the legendary Tippa Irie. ‘Have Some Fun’ with General Levy and Ed Solo, was also a massive hit on the airwaves.

His impressive diversity has seen him rework the likes of Armand Van Helden, Old Dirty Bastard and The Prodigy. His landmark, chart-topping Welcome to the Jungle mix series on Jungle Cakes has just reached its eighth volume, and upcoming projects include a new artist album alongside Specimen A, plus a big hand in the forthcoming Jungle Cakes x Trojan Records remix project.

It’s an honour to be hosting this legend here for the first time in York.

KILLA P

Killa P is a renowned MC in the grime world. Hailing from Brixton, he’s acclaimed for his unique style and hard lyrics. He became known as one of the UK’s prolific MCs while he was a member of one of the UK’s founding grime crews, Roll Deep.

Contributing to many of Roll Deep’s releases including ‘In at the Deep End’, ‘Rules & Regulations’ and ‘Return of the Big Money Sound’, his style and flow led to commercial success and earned him a new generation of fans through his 2008 collaboration with The Bug on the seminal track ‘SKENG’.

Having found an audience in his own right, Killa P followed up this success with two self-released mix CDs – Killa Instinct and Killa Instinct Volume 2 in 2008 and 2009. Jump forward a few years and he was producing his own music in his home-built studio, working alongside producers and DJs including Chimpo and Sir Spyro. He came back with the follow-up to the phenomenal ‘SKENG’ with a remixed/re-voiced version entitled ‘LENG’.

Killa P continues to be a formidable presence in the UK grime scene and we can’t wait to have him on the Herbal Mafia stage for the first time!

DEEP CRISIS

Leeds born drum and bass trio, consisting of two DJ/Producer brothers and the brother from another mother on the mic. Following the massive success of their debut release Mind How Ya Chat/ Dynamo on Dub Shotta Records, as well as the impact made with their first music video, they look set to be the next big name in the scene. The Deep Crisis fusion of bass and bars sets tracks and stages on fire with energy that’s infectious. They elevate Drum and Bass to a whole new level and are definitely ones to watch out for in 2024!

DIVERGE

Also born and bred in Leeds, Diverge has carved out a niche for himself by sheer virtue of his technical mixing talent and peerless tune selection, making him a true DJ’s DJ and a rarity in today’s scene.

As co-founder of online magazine The What in 2013, Diverge built up an array of contacts within the world of drum and bass; the site going on to provide the genre’s freshest news, features and mixes until its eventual closure in 2016.

At the beginning of 2017 Diverge took up the job of co-label manager at Metalheadz alongside Ant TC1, and continued to climb the drum and bass ladder. In the 7 years since he’s represented the label at Outlook and Dimensions Festival in Croatia, We Out Here and Project 6 Festival in the UK, not forgetting appearances at the biggest clubs in the UK.

Diverge is also the founder and resident of Leeds-based night License To Jungle. Over the years the team have been responsible for bringing some of the finest selectors to the city, as well as playing an important role when it comes to breaking out new and unheard talent. Now in its 8th year, License To Jungle has become a beacon for jungle music in the North.
