Since 2014, Say Owt have been hosting raucous poetry slams where performers get 3 mins to wow an audience. They’ve become the mainstay of the York community. Whether you love the written (and spoken) word or are just curious, this high energy event features a host of poets each with a unique style. We promise a Saturday night poetry party packed with humour & heart, personal stories & politics.
Steven Camden aka Polarbear is an internationally acclaimed spoken word artist, award winning writer and storyteller from Birmingham.
Polarbear’s poetry is dripping with gorgeous story-telling. He talks about people and places with a unique ear for language: celebrating the tiny human characteristics. Since first stepping on stage in 2004, he has performed his work and led creative projects from Manchester to Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur to California. Polarbear has graced stages from Kuala Lumpur to California via Glastonbury and The Royal Shakespeare Company. His work has featured on BBC Radio 1, 3 and 6.
He writes novels, plays, screenplays and poems celebrating his mixed heritage and the amazing people he grew up around.
He is at his happiest in a room with people sharing and building stories, preferably with good food in the mix.
With over 155,000 views on YouTube and a live album released on Scroobius Pip’s Speech Development record label, Polarbear helped forge the modern spoken word scene with his introspective, sharp, well-crafted performances.
