South London genre-blending story tellers Alabama 3 are back, and new album ‘Whacked’ is the first new material since the tragic passing of their beloved and unconventional frontman and songwriter Jake Black, aka The Very Reverend D. Wayne Love, in May 2019.
For over twenty years, Mr H has been bringing the legendary Brixton collective to York – whose ‘Sopranos’ theme ‘Woke Up This Morning’ and unbridled delinquency blends Hank Williams, gospel and acid house.
Pure miscreant, theo-pharmalogical, neo-situationist, holy music junkies floating high in the anaemic river of mass entertainment…
Yup, ALABAMA 3 are one of the most joyous, righteous, provocative and inspirationally original bands Britain has ever spawned.
Even Nashville icon Billy Joe Spears is in on their acid-country cowboy insurrection, covering ‘U Don’t Dance 2 Tekno’.
Still the best live band in the country and swinging like the devil’s own dick … On your knees!!
Final words to Larry Love, “You can praise the Lord, you can pass the ammunition, you can be woke you can be wicked you can have the wisdom of Solomon but unless you are ready to get whacked with Alabama 3 there’s no point in dreaming”.
Alabama 3 are very much back. Time to get whacked.
