Yorkshire-based DJ Simma is rooted in all things dub and bass, from running sessions with his sound, producing tracks in the studio, or most notably, running the acclaimed ‘Dub Junction’ record label, which quickly gained international recognition with a trio of now sold-out releases from Vibronics, Danny T & Tradesman and Ashanti Selah (plus accompanying remixes from Bim One, Nick Manasseh and Yaksha).
The Dub Junction project sees continued support from legendary selectors such as Jah Shaka, Channel One, Aba Shanti-I and King Shiloh, as well as regular radio play from the likes of Don Letts (BBC6 Music) and Ras Kwame (Capital). In a collaboration with Sound Mag early-2022, Simma compiled the charity compilation album: ‘Tour Dub Yorkshire, which also saw his first production effort, a heavy four-to-the-floor steppas remix of DBC3’s ‘All Praise’ which went on to see a sold out run of 7” polyvinyl.
His latest production ‘For The Win’ (as heard on BBC 1Xtra) features Natty Campbell on the mic and draws heavy inspiration from the 8-bit Jahtari days, whilst also paying homage to a classic Roots Radics riddim, as part of the forthcoming mixtape ‘Simma Enters The Game’, coming summer 2023 on the SUPERCHIP label.
You can catch Simma behind the decks at his ‘Hull Dub Club’ nights representing for Three Crowns Soundsystem, as well being a regular face trusted to play warmup slots for the likes of Lee Perry, Fatboy Slim, Toots & The Maytals, Grandmaster Flash, Chase & Status, Mungo’s Hi Fi, Dreadzone and many more!
2022 also saw Simma’s first run of summer festival slots, playing dubplate packed sets at the likes of Boomtown, Beat-Herder and Africa Oyé, all available to listen back now on Mixcloud, or for a deeper peak into his record box, tune into his Dub Junction show on Noods Radio or the Three Crowns show on Subtle Radio.
