From the age of 9, John Otway always knew he wanted to be a pop star but had to wait until 1977 and an appearance on the Old Grey Whistle Test, remembered for an unfortunate leap across an amplifier, the full force of which was rendered upon the most tender part of his body.

Suddenly, John was a talking point and audiences surged sending ‘Really Free’ in to the charts and a TOTP appearance introduced by Elton John.

It was another 25 years before ‘Rock and Roll’s Greatest Failure’ troubled the chart compilers again but this enigma, this relentlessly inventive pop auteur, keeps on entertaining huge audiences.
