Since 2014, Say Owt have been hosting raucous poetry slams where performers get 3 mins to wow an audience. They’ve become the mainstay of the York community. Whether you love the written (and spoken) word or are just curious, this high energy event features a host of poets each with a unique style. We promise a Saturday night poetry party packed with humour & heart, personal stories & politics.
Jasmine is the Birmingham Poet Laureate. She is a multiple slam champion, beatboxer and winner of the Out-Spoken Prize for Poetry. Her work exploring identity, LGBTQ issues and mental health has appeared on Button Poetry, at the Tate Modern, Glastonbury Festival, Symphony Hall and across BBC Radio. She was featured on Sky Arts’ BAFTA-winning show Life & Rhymes and her poem about the pandemic, filmed on a rollercoaster, was broadcast across America on PBS.
Her poetry/beatbox/Celtic dubstep show ‘Dancing To Music You Hate’ explores gender identity and was commissioned by Warwick Arts Centre. After premiering to standing ovations, it was shortlisted for Best Spoken Word Show in the Saboteur Awards and its titular track was performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall, broadcast on BBC Four.
This will be Say Owt’s last slam (and probably event) until the autumn so don’t miss out!
We know times are tight, so we have two tiers of tickets, £5 and £10 in advance. Choose whichever one you like. All tickets £12 on the door.
