Approaching the end of 2021 seems as good a time as any to have reason to celebrate. It has been a strange ride for sure over the last 20 months. Gotta keep looking forward! So, here are Soma Crew, Cowgirl and Tremulous Monk, playing ‘on the floor’ at The Crescent Community Venue, inviting you to participate in the fun. Cheers!
After the release of twin vinyl LPs ‘Out Of Darkness / Into Light’ through Vinyl Eddie Records in July this year, the band are working on new material which will feature heavily on this show. Expect driving, motorik energy, a happy reliance on repetition and contrasting tempos. At once personal and expansive, Soma Crew’s songs address the experience of engaging with a chaotic and uncertain world, inevitably reflecting on the state of living under viral skies.
‘Perfectly executed drone rock with a rumbling bass that hits you right in the chest when you play it loud!’
With Just A Hint Of Mayhem
Running a conveyor-belt of future classics; Cowgirl’s well-crafted melodies are wrapped in walls of wailing guitar fuzz. Running the gamut of garage rock to power pop, their music shimmers with an inherent pop shine.
Their latest self-titled album was recorded in a burst of creativity with Euan Hinshelwood (Younghusband/ Cate Le Bon) at his studio, Vacant TV in London in early 2020 and released by Safe Suburban Home in September this year.
‘Blistering dirty rock ‘n’ roll that fuses very early 70’s Neil Young and Crazy Horse with The Jesus and Mary Chain into a bare-knuckled assault on the senses’
God Is In The TV
The musical expression of Chris Wilkinson, former lead singer and guitarist for The Falling Spikes and synth/guitar contributor to Soma Crew, can best be experienced through his solo enterprise; Tremulous Monk. Here is the vehicle through which his ear for melody, songcraft and multi-instrumental composition take flight. Explorations of the occasional and the intimate are elevated through lo-fi pop sensibilities. Tremulous Monk will gladden your heart.
Missing Kids
Bright melodies and crunchy distortion wrap the witty and poignant lyrical observations of Missing Kids guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Dave Mudie. Drawing from the well of such luminaries as Yo La Tengo, there is a stripped back urgency and tenderness to this 2-pieces’ craft. Sam Coates from Cowgirl lends his hand to the sticks and skins.
