Formed in York in 2013, Soma Crew remain a prominent feature of the city’s alternative music scene. They have released 5 albums independently and have performed live with The Fall, Focus, Hawklords, Japanese Television, Blown Out, Three Trapped Tigers, Soft Machine, Gong and Lucid Dream.

For the last 11 years the band have developed a hypnotic wall of sound like no other. They have a driving, motorik energy, concentrating on repetition, fluid tempos, tone and texture, through layers of distorted, effects-driven guitar and relentless rhythm. Their musical influences are drawn from the guitar intensity of Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized, the heavy precision of the Stooges and the minimal drive of Silver Apples and Suicide, and the psychedelic arc of 13th Floor Elevators. At once personal and expansive, the lyrics address the experience of engaging with a chaotic and uncertain world with humility and tolerance.

With four albums, a mini-album and EP already under their belt, Soma Crew are still going strong with a new tracks in the pipeline and no plans to slow down for the next eleven years….!

Needlework
Once in a while, young bands arrive, seemingly from nowhere, and immediately spark a flame of excitement and anticipation! Needlework are such a band. Chaotic yet cohesive, aloof yet inviting, their sound is wholly their own; a swirling momentum of percussive energy sparring back and forth with sparkling guitar riffs and looping bass, crowned with a half sung, half spoken, all captivating lead vocal.
