After a righteous celebration of alternative party music at A Slow Education in October, we’re at it again in May!
A great bill of left-field rock’n’roll bands play on Friday night, our buddies Pip Blom headline, then again all day Saturday, with foliage loving, kraut-ish post-punks Snapped Ankles topping the bill.

Drawsome 2022
The penultimate night of Drawsome, a five day celebration of music and art in York. Local guitar band Bull are joined by dreamy electronic trio Haiku Salut, Bristol’s Japan-influenced trippy jazz collective Yama Warashi and soulful pop from Afiah Achi. An exhibition from Yama Warashi, and free Recycled Robot making and York Zine Fest workshops make up the the day from 12pm.

Newen Afrobeat
Newen Afrobeat is a 13-piece Chilean orchestra that makes music inspired by the legacy of the Nigerian musician Fela Kuti. With a particular Latin stamp, they unify the African rhythms with a colourful and energetic staging, embedded in a deep social message that talks about their roots and social movements in their territory.

For our next event we have UK hiphop pioneer SKINNYMAN making a long awaited return to York, ahead of his ‘Council Estate of Mind’ UK tour. A Herbal Mafia favourite and absolute legend in the scene, we can’t wait to have him back!
Special guests HOMEBREW KIT in support: This new hiphop supergroup has emerged from from Skinnyman’s home town of Leeds. Consisting of MCs Tee Jackson, Matter & Teks over the beats and turntablist skills of UK DMC finalist, and Herbal Mafia regular: DJM.

Inspired by the music of Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66, Carioca Soul perform an eclectic mix of Bossa Nova/Samba, contemporary Brazilian music mixed with original tunes in a melting pot of latin/funk and soul. Having already supported US Sax star Harry Allen, Carioca Soul have been wowing audiences at festivals and jazz clubs around the country.
