The Kate Peters Big Band will present an evening of music celebrating the work of Ella Fitzgerald. Featuring classic arrangements from Ella’s collaborations with Count Basie, Nelson Riddle and others, The Kate Peters Big Band will pay tribute to one of the great ladies of song.
There are two types of gig-goers aren’t there; those that are interested in watching the evening’s support bands and those that are not. Well here are a few reasons to get down early…
Scottish singer-songwriter Siobhan Wilson wowed many with the release of her debut album proper last year and it’s mix of shoegaze, sparse, grungy guitar and delicate introspection. Much praise followed including helping Siobhan to winning the Green Man Rising Award.
A proper Canadian band, The Deep Dark Woods wear their music-history influences on their sleeves whilst creating utterly unique and ageless records again, and again, and again. Country rock, haunting folk, trippy wigouts and top songwriting. Lazily likened to The Band and Neil Young but understandably so, how else can you explain to people how good this band are.
This month we welcome Sammy Dreadlocks from Leeds.
One of the crew once went up to him while he was DJing and asked to know the name of the tune he was playing.
He just laughed, and played another dubplate.
Boss Caine present their new album ‘Loved By Trouble, Troubled By Love’ with a special big band launch party in The Crescent. Support from York’s finest death punk, rockabilly, garage rock and roll duo, Snakerattlers, and London’s finest old world ragtime, country blues, twangsters, The Swamp Stomp String Band.
Beans on Toast brings his ‘Sitting On A Chair Tour’ to York. The enthusiastic performer is promising a unique evening of stories about his travels and songs from his huge nine album back catalogue. Love songs, protest songs and drinking songs are intertwined with the stories behind the songs and the random adventures they’ve led him on.
The legendary Leeds party heads to The Crescent for a special fundraiser for MAP CHARITY, based in Leeds. All profits to MAP, who are fighting against the threat of developers, in order to purchase their building and retain their inspiring creative educational programme. As music promoters working with an independant venue in a city seemingly increasingly full of luxury developments, we can really relate to their cause, and hope you can too.
