The Crescent and York Palestine Solidarity Campaign invite you to a fabulous charity fundraiser for Medical Aid For Palestinians (MAP).

We’ll be lighting the candles for a relaxed, table-only ‘night club’ style evening!

Music will be provided by the Jazzville Quintet with special guest star singer, Raquel Alvaro. Portuguese jazz song bird Raquel will be spreading her multi-talented vocal wings. Although she is adept in Classical, fado, as well as swinging jazz, tonight she will be showcasing her Latin roots.

The Quintet – built around York-based jazzers, the Jazzville Duo (Sam Johnson on piano, Tim Murgatroyd on bass) – will be playing funky Blue Note classics, choice Latin vibes, and some haunting ballads for your delectation. Sam Johnson has featured at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival and runs his own big band. Up front are the very talented and groovy Gustavo Andrade on tenor sax and Chris Williamson on trumpet. Gustavo hails from São Paulo, Brazil, and is a graduate of Leeds Conservatoire in 2022. Driving the swing onward will be drummer, Miles Pillinger.

The poetry section of the evening will be hosted by York’s very own Henry Raby, loveably anarchic maestro of Say Owt Poetry. Guest poets Izzy Brittain and Minal Sukumar will be taking the mic. Izzy’s work celebrates creative resistance and collective joy. Minal writes urgent pieces interweaving the private and the public to create unforgettable verse.

We’d love you to support this essential cause. Medical help for the people of Gaza couldn’t be more urgent.

Medical Aid for Palestinians

MAP’s vision is a future where all Palestinians can access an effective, sustainable and locally-led system of healthcare, and the full realisation of their rights to health and dignity.
