Paul McArthur’s Kings of Cool is a high-quality, eleven-piece band playing a mix of jazz, funk, disco and acid jazz – but with a cool twist.
Based in the North East, but with band members hailing from all over the UK, you might find us laying down chilled tracks at a festival on the South Coast one week, then providing a sleek night-time vibe at an exclusive venue on Tyneside the next. You might even see us in party mode at a big celebration event, rockin’ out some funky grooves and disco grinds from right across the last four decades!
Our music spans a wide range of genres – we love Stevie Wonder and Steely Dan as much as we love Jamiroquai, Macy Gray, Tower of Power, and Kamasi Washington. The music we make is unified by one common factor: it’s got a groove. Maybe one track makes you nod your head, maybe another makes you jump up and dance – whatever the tune, it’s just got to have that energy and feeling!
“If, like me, you are bored of hearing the same old tired covers of Dad band clichéd standards, then get yourselves along to a Kings of Cool gig. Classy composition and contemporary arrangements belted out by a stage-filling collective of quality musicians, including a hot brass section and two strong vocalists. This lot are recalibrating the benchmarks.” M. – North Yorks.
