Statement on Reopening

The government has today confirmed that restrictions around capacity at music venues will be lifted as of next Monday.

This means that we can finally dance again! We will be reopening for all planned gigs and events from WED 21st JULY, with the front bar reopening every day for our regulars too. We’ve got a cracking summer of shows in the calendar; head HERE to take a look….

However, as we move towards ‘personal responsibility’, we’d like to encourage our customers to treat each other and staff with respect. These are strange times, and in order to pull through this, respect needs to be at the heart of what we do not just as a venue, but as a society.

Please read the information here before attending a show.

Funding success!!!

We’re delighted to announce that alongside some of York’s other venues and cultural organisations, we were successful in our application to the Cultural Recovery Fund! This money will enable us to reopen safely, and survive till next Spring. We’ve got some fun plans in the meanwhile, but want to wait and see how the news develops over the next couple of weeks. As well as ACE and DCMS, we want to thank everyone who’s been supporting us, our incredible team and staff, as well as the musicians, engineers, and creatives who helped make our venue what it is.

Update around planning for The Crescent Nursery next door

The Music Venue Trust have pioneered a way forward in creating a win-win situation for developers and music venues alike, using a form of contract known as a ‘Deed of Easement’. We would like the councillors to adopt this as a planning condition for developments near all music venues in York. This would represent a massive and progressive step from a council that has pledged to protect its venues from this very threat.

Our thoughts on re-opening

This week’s government announcements, although welcomed by the likes of Wetherspoons, was not a great moment for culture and arts. The guidance clearly states that live performances, including music and comedy, as well as background music, are off the table for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, […]
